Brain, Spinal Cord and Skull Base Tumor Program
Brain and skull base tumors can be difficult for patients as well as their loved ones. Carle Health is here to provide the highest level of care possible. The Brain and Skull Base Tumor Program at Carle Health offers a multidisciplinary, team-based approach to treating these often-complex conditions. Our program focuses on providing world class diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care to patients with tumors of the brain or skull base.
We have expert teams of providers at both Carle Foundation Hospital and Carle BroMenn Medical Center. Each team works with patients to create individualized treatment plans that not only treat the tumor itself but get our patients back into the routine of their daily lives.
Treatment options can include one or more of the following:
- Endoscopic trans nasal resection of skull base tumors.
- Real-time fluorescence image-guided tumor resection.
- Resection of brain tumor near speech cortex and motor areas (using planning with diffusion tensor imaging, functional MRI).
- Awake craniotomy/brain mapping for resection of brain tumors.
- Delivery of local chemotherapy during resection of malignant brain tumors.
- Resection of complex brain tumors, including acoustic neuromas.
- High end technology in radiation treatments including stereotactic radiosurgery and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
- Access to clinical trials.
Spine Care
Back and neck pain can make even the simplest task excruciating. The spine specialists at Carle Health are focused on identifying the source of your back or neck pain so they can develop an individualized treatment plan to get you back to regular activity. Our team of board-certified specialists in Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Interventional Pain work together to take care of any type of back or neck condition, from treatment of the simple strain all the way to the most complex spine surgery.

How do I request a referral?
If you have questions or would like a referral, talk to your primary care provider. Referring providers can submit a patient consultation request via EPIC. Providers that do not use EPIC should complete a Neuroscience Institute Referral Form (X1022) found at carle.org/referral forms and fax this form along with any related records to (217) 326-0277.
